Hey all, I've picked these up from an old fella locally. The two smaller ones obviously look blue, any opinion on the sex of these one?
The big white male is gorgeous, they are all from the same spawn so chances of white baby's is high if they do breed.
Are these a specific species of convict?

What makes them special. I think they maybe crossed.

I think the blue ones are some type of hybrid. The blue spangles and shape of the face don't seem typical of a convict. They look nice though, like I always say, if you like them it doesn't matter what they are.
No idea of the sex sorry.

Special as in not normal, the guy has bred fish for decades. Wild convicts often show a blue colour from my research, the white one is a little stud, looks like a mini white Midas bull to me:-)
Either hybrids or not they are cool, it doesn't bother me at all but we will never know if they are. I'm not a fish snob so it doesn't matter;-)
I was just curious if someone would say yep they are "example", not to worry.

Look more similar to Honduran red points than regular cons to me...
Top pic being a hrp of course.

The larger one with the steeper profile is the male, the smaller one with a less steep look probably the female.
They could be Honduran Red Points, or as others pointed out, a cross of the normal convict and an HRP, or other Amatitlania.
Since they have been here decades, this is a possibility, as "back in the day", many people were unaware of the different species of the genus and randomly turned them out mutts.
Below are a few pics of HRPs.

Thanks pal, great reply as always.
They are all from the same spawn so I'm not sure if the white one being part of the group makes a difference. I'm guessing white (or pink which I'm guessing is the same) came from a particular line of convicts?

I know people hate on convicts since they're so common but I still think they're great fish and very personable. Looks like you have 2 males and a female. That white one is a stud...never seen a pink convict that's so solid white. You could call it a platinum convict since "platinum" anything seems to be so popular nowadays. The other two look like a cross

Yeah I've never seen such a white one either, he deserves his own wet pet setup in due time I think and a little breeding project to get more whites hmmm.

I'm with Duane, if I would guess I would say the same, the white one "looks" like the white hrp, who's origin is also in question, as for blue convicts being closest to wild I've seen many that range from blue to yellow...
