New species of Arowana reported

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hadn't heard about it. Thank you luvinbluegills.

You're very welcome! I'm not an Aro keeper, not yet anyway, and hoped this would be news of interest. I didn't see a similar headline after scolling quite a way through the posts and had wanted to avoid reposting.

some call this new species Nami Green Aro, "Batik" Aro and "Snakeskin" Aro..

so far, those are the few names I had come across in Singapore.. Value wise, it cost twice the amount of the original Red or Golden XB arowana due to its rarity.. I have seen those "snake" markings on a blue/violet/red base arowana in 1 of those private farms, but the markings were very prominent only near the gills and the first 1/3 of the body, which the markings just fade off at the rest of the body.. maybe a juvenile aro and it not for sale though..

anyway, video for reference:

It shouldn't be called Nami Green, because it's a different fish from the Batik. One is from Myanmar and other is from Malaysia.

Wrong. Scleropages inscriptus is found in Myanmar. They are different species from Green Aro as well.

u got a point.. made my conclusion too soon after seeing the similarities with nami green/batik.. well, guess we have to wait till more studies are made.. my bad..

Don't think i've seen these in Hong Kong yet, and over here Aro's are extremely popular... probably almost as popular if not more so than Singapore...

u probably need to travel to Shen Zhen to see the Nami Green/Batik.. Saw a few there last year selling for about tens of thousand..

^ yeah, im sure in China you would almost definitely find some... Since if its rare and expensive the chinese lap it up...
