new spotted gar in 125 growout. feeding tips?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the only reason i moved him is i wanted to keep my baby motoro more or less alone.
if u think i can keep them together for a while i could move him back. i just thought he would be happier in the 300.

the only other fish in the 125 are a few 3" clown loaches.

it's really your call, honestly though, if you wanted to provide the best/most appropriate husbantry for a small gar, you might want to consider my advise regarding the stepping up of tanks.

ps: i wouldn't trust a 7" gar with 3" clown loaches, especially considering the their drastically different growth rates.

i was thinking the same thing about the loaches.

that was a good article btw. i dont plan on power feeding though.

it has only been 2 days since he ate so i will go up to a week until i offer him feeders. i will try to drop in 6 or so frozen silversides every night and watch him. they closely resemble the fatheads i was feeding him. believe me they wont go to waste with my monster arow in there. he has to be over 20" now and he is only a year old, but he wont harm a fly. he is in there with some 5" redtailed sharks and he just ignores them. he like mostly pellets, krill and silverside but defiantely wont refuse feeders. he can wipe out 40 in 2 days.

tonight ill post some pictures and keep u updated.

lfs has a beautiful tsn-rtc cat. he is just a baby. i wish i had an empty 500 for him. no problem to get him to eat anything lol

regarding the parts of yr post highlighted in red, do some digging, you should come up with some info that tells you why they might not be such good ideas. it's getting pretty late here, i'll try & give you a better response tomorrow morning. in the meantime, some digging/reading up on old threads couldn't hurt--

why would this be hurting your head?

no luck eating pellets or silversides. i dont want to wait much longer. i have some feeders in my quarantine tank. i may drop a few in.

thats good because at 7" there should be no way in hell its starving. it should have food 24/7

so basicly your saying not to starve him for too long.

i have to get more feeders today, only 8 left. i will drop the 8 in tonight and quarantine 50 or so for 3 days.

the only bad thing is my arowana likes to pick feeders off too. i have to watch to see if he eats.

no im saying at 7" he needs constant food. at that size he is highly subseptable to stunting.
