why would this be hurting your head?

no luck eating pellets or silversides. i dont want to wait much longer. i have some feeders in my quarantine tank. i may drop a few in.

It is a bad situation as is.. I'd suggest putting the fish in your feeder quarantine tank especially if it is smaller in size (20 or 30 gallon would be ideal not 300)......Work with it later on after it puts some size on. Gar are not hard to switch over to Prepared or frozen thawed feed. They are impossible however when you have too much going on in a big tank full of other fish working against it. Work with it by itself or with other gar in more confined area and you have a substantially better chance.

what perun said.

i have 2 30 gal tanks setup for feeders. ill keep 50-60 minnows in the second holding tank at all times. with 12x filteration. water kept at 70deg.

the first tank is for quarantine. when i get them i treat tank with jungle parasite clear for 4 days then move to clean 30 gal. both at same temp. the minnow seem to do much better with temp around 70 rather then 80.

ill have to figure out how many ill need to buy each week. i figure 30-40 will do it.

both tanks are cycled already.

My gar.... large pus and won't rosey reds.... only guppys... spoiled basterd

ok good news. stopped adding feeders to the tank about 3 days ago. i bought 1lbs of raw shrimp at store, thawed about 5 of them and cut them up about the size of the rosies i was feeding. took me about an hour of dangling them with prongs in front of there face but finally both of them ate. 2 days in a row. so it look like i finished step 1. now to get them on pellets. then i can mix things up a little.

i have about 100 rosies left. im worried if i feed them live again too soon it might mess up all my work.

Your gar will remember that the shrimp is edible and delicious even if you take breaks from it. You can still give him feeders until they run out, just don't give too many at once and try some shrimp mixed in. No point in letting the rosies just waste away in quarantine.

sounds good. i add a few feeders in between shrimp feedings.

1 of the gars is a little less interested in the shrimp the other loves it. im sure he will come around.
