I received a present from a friend who wanted to get rid of a 6x2x2 on an old stand :headbang2.
The tank is in great shape with the silicon looking good and no scratches.
It has been drilled with two 1 inch drains, you can see the bulkheads and two 1inch returns which I have to buy.

I am going to build a new stand today because the old one has rotten legs.
I can buy a new stand for $160, so the aim is to do it for less than $100.
I'll post pics tonight and try to budget everything :D.

Nice 1, good looking tank, good luck with the build!

dude massive tank ! luckky

thats a crazy looking tank. was it a DIY tank?

Here are the pics of the stand so far.
I am out of screws and need to add some finishing touches.
I am going to add some bracing on the bottom (last two legs) and then I am done I think.
Any suggestions??

looks good.. id add some side to side bracing to keep it from floping over if someon/something happens to bump it.. such as a big dog running around the house durring a thunder storm..

Stand looks good and it will support the weight easy. However, the legs are set up in a way as to "sheer" the load. This is the least efficient way to distribute the weight. I'm not busting on you, like I said, I think the stand will hold the weight and it looks good :) If your were seeking opinions, you got one. If you want to make a stand with less wood i.e. lighter and less $$$. then you need to build the legs directly under the cross bracing that supports the tank. The trick is connecting the pieces together www.kregtool.com this tool make it easy or you can use bracing. The point is the weight is directly under the legs and not on the bolts or screws. Again, my disclaimer, if your looking for opinions you came to the right place :)

I believe you when you say there are better ways, so your opinion is accepted.
I copied the design of the stand it is on already because a) it works and b) I only really have limited tools.
I legs being underneth makes alot of sense but I am limited by the tools I had at hand.
Less wood is better but I am no carpenter so I went with 4x2 all around.
I do have a 6ft piece of 4x1 I may make a shelf out of or use it for bracing.
Thanks for you advice and feedback.

Yeah it's no big deal and who is a pro out there :) We are fish keepers and the stand is necessary to put the plumbing under the tank! As long as the tank stays off the ground then the stand is doing it's job :)

I can't wait to see that tank stocked!

Cheers buddy!

Brace the bottom of the legs and you should be good to go. Just tie in the bottom of the legs the same way the top is.
