New stand for 6x2x2

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is the stand so far, I have to add the 1x4 timber shelf in the middle and then move it into the fish.
Then take the tank off the old stand and move it onto the new one this weekend.
I happy with the way it turned out and I will post the final costings tonight.

looks strong enough I can't see the screws to well but as you are bearing the weight on the screws I would make sure your horizontal 2x4's are screwed to each vertical piece above each leg with 3 screws at each location. IMO. it likely is fine but it would help me sleep better at night. also if you built a shelf across the bottom it would help with lateral stress from getting hit. may not be necassary where your putting it as I have done the same but the stand had nowhere to go so it wasn't an issue. it was in a recessed area where it couldn't get knocked. good work though it will be a great new home for whatever you stock it with

I used 3inch self taping galvanised screws and used 4 in each top corner.
I have two on the outside and two on the inside securing the legs to the top frame to add to the overall strength.
The top of the middle legs have three screws, one in the cross member and two in the legs.
I did this as the tank will be pressing directly down on the two middle cross members and the legs directly under them.
The whole stand used 52 screws not including the shelf which I haven't added yet.
I am sure in will be fine.

Stand is finished and ready for my fish room :headbang2
I added the shelf to the bottom and will place the canister filters under the stand.
The whole project cost me $120 which is not bad considering I could buy one for $170.
If I had to make another I could do it cheaper but you learn as you go.
I think it looks pretty good :D.

No, I think I'll leave it natural but I may paint the back of the tank.
I really want to get it full and running today.

I am impressed. The stand looks pretty good. Although the two outer legs look a bit weird with not much visible support, i'm sure it'll do fine. It's in a fish room, so it's not going to be in a high traffic area making it vulnerable to bumping.

Good work!

The two outer legs set at right angles to the other legs are to accomodate the bulk head drains.
The drains are set in the rear corners of the tank as the tank come pre drilled with floor drains for canister filters.
