New BD Stingray (got him 48 hours ago)

is chewing but then spitting the food out. He ate 2 carnivore pellets when I first got him but since then had been either chewing and spitting out of swimming over food. Anything I should do?

also been buried a lot in the sand but in the day and in the evening clears this area and swims against the glass, not surfing but winking in place against the corner.

many ideas please?

parameters:

ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
PH 6.4

pictures of him hiding, swimming against the corner and in the bare patch he made.

im keeping the lights off now until he settles

Usually the people selling the rays have the best ideas on how to make them comfy in terms of water parameters and diet?

Did they not go over all this with you?

Yes I’ve tried the below foods

masivore pellets
Mussels
Prawns
Super worms

guy in the shop told me he fed the above.

this morning he ate a super worm and was then disinterested in food.

I know they have a high metabolic rate, but so they eat small amounts in each sitting? Is one worm normal?

after the worm he chilled on the glass for a while.

Are u trying different foods besides pellets? And Oscar's are not tank mates for rays IMO.
Came home at lunch and ray still buried so moved the Oscar’s to a different tank so just the Asian aro, mid size polleni and ray in the 180G.

oscars weren’t bothering him but moved just incase they were whenI was out at night.

got some fresh shrimp to feed this eve rather than frozen so will update on that.

how long does it usually take a ray to settle in a new tank and come active/not hide?

No definitive answer on how long. I would try feeding chopped up earthworms.

He ate the worm this morning so will definitely continue with that. Is 1 worm enough for each sitting for a ray of his size?

The previous owner said he fed him sliced fresh prawn so will try that too.

Is there a chance this ray may just be very timid and continue to hide/not move even when settled?

A settled, happy ray should be attacking food. More than a single worm at a time from my experience. But as long as its eating something, just keep trying different options and hope its just settling in.

Ok just got home and sliced up fresh prawns and popped them in.

he whizzed over and ate 2 or 3 bits before losing interest and going on the glass.

he comes back over to them every now and then and cruises over the top of the and nibbles at them

one picture is what he does after eating and the other is of his poop. Does this look ok?

Also he is up at the back of the tank swimming to the top 8-10 times then settles back on the sand.

Is that normal?

0 ammonia
0 nitrite
60 ppm nitrate (water change this eve)
PH 6.5
