new stingray tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would just use what ever comes out of the tap... add some prime and done... i dont even know anymore what the ph is out of my tap... all of my fish tanks just get that water... rays can handle any water as long as it is consistent...

Make sure you buffer your water if you use R/O.. or your pH is going to crash and your rays will die.

Why would the ph crash ?
I have had my tank up and cycling for 4 weeks at a steady 7.2ph has not changed a bit.
Granted if i did a 100% water change it would probably be bad for any fish as R/O water is to pure, but with regular 25% to a max of 50% water changes at a time would this not be fine? or am i missing something?

R/o water has no buffering capacity... pure r/o water can have ph swings these can be bad

i knew that it was pure and initially has no buffer capacity but i didnt know that it could swing drastically when used in normal water changes.
I have been useing my r/o system for almost a year on all my tanks should i not be doing this anymore ?

Do you use 100% R/O?

If your R/O unit is working properly, the water it produces should have a 0 alkalinity.. any acidity (organics, ammonia, nitrates) will send that pH crashing so low ammonia converts to ammonium and nitrifying bacteria starts dying off.

Well ya pretty much 100% i think its actually 96.7%
Thats weird though that i havent had problems before.

So even on an established tank doing a 15% water change could cause havic ?

When did we start talking about water changes?

Canadian water is super hard it wouldn't take much to buffer it..

PS.

Shame on us for de-railing.. make your own thread..

"Should I use R/O water for my stingray tank?"..

well i was talking about water changes the whole time,
for the past year and some thats what i have used my R/O system for, just standard 15-25% water change maintenance
