Hi, Frank Indiviglio here. I’m a herpetologist, zoologist, and book author, recently retired from a career of over 20 years with the Bronx Zoo. A key indicator of intelligence is said to be behavioral flexibility – the ability to modify actions to fit new situations. Long thought to rely mainly upon instinct, reptiles have not been credited with much “brain power”. However, recent research revealed that many reptiles are capable of solving complex problems that are not “covered” by instinct, and can use what they’ve learned in the future (see NY Times; Nov. 18, 2013). Although reptiles diverged from warm blooded creatures at least 280 million years ago, some meet or even exceed the problem-solving abilities of birds and mammals. This will not surprise reptile owners, of course!
I’m often amazed by what I observe among the reptiles under my care, and would like to summarize some of that, and several interesting experiments, here. I hope you will post your own experiences below. This is a new area of research, so please feel free to boast, and remember that each new observation, however fleeting, has value.

I did a recent experiment with my nerodia Chesapeake bay water snake, I put a fat guppy in a pill container with just enough of a hole in the side for the snakes head to fit in but the fish not to get out.. just so see if he can figure out how to get into a container and sure enough after 5 minutes he was eating the guppy. I'm going to try and make more complex puzzles to get to the fish soon

And the spam continues. Judging by the black text in the first part, leads me to believe it is posted else where too.

But there is my issue. He keeps pasting over and over in other forums the same things. And its a tid bit of info that could be found ANYWHERE on the internet, followed by look at my blog. Im going to assume that he is paid to have that blog, and probably makes money off of every click. Thus, spam.

Ah. fair enough

He might be a great guy. But he is essentially making money of MFK, posting as some expert. I could be wrong and he may not be making money off each click to his blog, but in the end he is advertising it (and that pet place, where the MFK meets used to be held but where stopped because they didnt want us to mention them in advertising the meet) while adding nothing to MFK.
