I'm making a new sump out of a standard 75g. I want to incorporate both a drawer storage box thingy (technical name) AND a filter stock system. I've been looking through the diy builds and I haven't seen any like that. Has anyone ever done it before? Pics? Links? Basically I want it to go into my drain line. Into the top of the container, through a couple 100 micron socks, then into the second drawer and through a couple 50 micron socks. Then have the 3rd drawer full of scrubbies. Then water flows into the 75g up over a baffle, through a drip tray, over the 10 gallons of bio balls I already have, then have my return pump and a bunch of pothos in the last chamber. Anyone see any flaws? Also open to other ideas. Thanks guys!

So whats the problem here? just cut a hole in the top of the drawer system for a filter sock or two. Make sure you have enough room in the first drawer for the sock to hang down.

No real problem...just making sure there are no huge flaws in my design. Like I said I've never seen anyone running this setup.

adding the filter sock to the "diy bio tower" as i like to call it is possible but you need alot of space for the sock to hang down plus the tower to stay somewhat above the water. got any diagrams? that would help.

No diagram. I'm not an artist and I don't have any autocadd software. But basically the drawers are 10" tall and the socks are 8" so I don't see that being an issue.

i thought of building an acrylic drawer that fits in an overflow box filled with bio balls to muffle sound and bio life but ive changed my design to a 4 sided overflow box. to me sounds like a convenient idea for maintanance. i guess im just too scared to drill a hole in the bottom of my plywood tank :P do it up and let us know how it works out

This is the best I could come up with without knowing the dimensions of your drawer system (I assumed 16" depth).

Should hold about 10g of bioballs (8"x14"x18"). My only concern is the overall height and the wasted space to the left of the tank.
I would reduce it to a two-drawer tall but not wide system and combine the scrubbies and bioballs in one chamber
