New sump water return question.

At 8' head you could go with a quiet one 6000 or a mag drive12 with no issues. These are just points of reference as there are a lot of other pumps that would work as well.
These are the max size pumps you could use. Anything smaller would obviously work too but the bigger the more flow. That box will give you lots of headroom for pumps. A quiet one 4000 or 5000 might be all you really need, but the box could handle a 6000 with no problems. depends on how much you want to spend and how much turnover you really need.

Also, what's do you think about the hose from the overflow box? I asked a couple of posts ago.
I like standard pvc sch 40 because it's cheap and it's drain line , but there is something to be said about flex pvc because it's really.....flexable lol
I' ve never used any of the hose that's ribbed, so to speak lol so I can't comment on how it affects flow. Flex pvc can be bought by the foot at any Home Depot or Lowes as can each 40 pvc
Yeah, the ribbed PVC also looks ribbed on the inside, and it being flexible would take out a 90 or so, but I can see the ribs slowing the water down a bit.. I think I'll go with the regular PVC. I'll post a pic of my new design idea in a sec too. And also, what exactly would a drip pan need to look like? Like just. A piece of plexiglas with a buncha holes? I just need something to go over my bioballs to spread the water over all the bioballs instead of just on the edge where the water overflows into.
The drip pan should have enough holes in it to allow water to cover all the bioballs, without too much staying in the plate, but no so much that it all goes into one area like the edges to the center. Kind of a hit or miss thing, but it's going to be a lot easier to dial int once you've got the pump.
And the price of the q1 5000 and 6000 is only like 10 bucks... Haha. So you don't think a 6000 would be overkill? I plan on putting a ball valve on the return like so that I can slow down the flow if necessary.
nah, Id go with the 6000 too then. I run a pair on my 300 and my water is very clear. You'd be looking at 10X turnover per hour, so as long as the flow doesn't slam your fish against the side of the tank, you'd be good. lol. Plus, with a valve you can throttle it back if needed. Throw a 1 1/5" check valve on the pump output and you have extra back flow prevention and it'll take the edge off the flow
I'd get creative with the return line maybe splitting it into 2 using 45's to spread out the flow.
Once my gfs done with the comp 'I'm ona iPad now' I'll upload our new design. But yeah,dividing it may be good- its gonna have some pressure I think. Maybe divide it into 2 and aim It down into the water at a 45 degree angle? Also, do you know a good site to get pumps off of?
