Okay! I'm ordering my new tank today, tenecor acrylic, and now we need to start a stand build.
Dimensions are 84x36x24, or about 310 gallons.

My stand build so far consists of

2 4x4 top and bottom frames with 2 2x4 cross braces surrounding the sump on the bottom and 4 2x4 cross braces on the top frame covered by a sheet of plywood (should I add a sheet of styrofoam too or is this only necessary with glass?)

2x4 supports on all sides every 16" or so with 2x8 corner supports .... all supports will be 26" tall because my sump tank is about 24", with 4" off for the 4x4 bottom frame. This gives me 6" of working space above the sump ... is this too little?

Stand will probably have a sheet of removable plywood on the front ... Any ideas of how to attach this?

Thanks :)

Okay... talked to the guy I ordered from (fishtanksdirect) and he said no styrofoam! Just a 3/4" plywood board loose with no screws/nails. Okay ... Sounds good! Now I just need feedback about height above the sump.

Moving all these tanks around is going to be a pain in the butt. I still need to figure out if my 75 gallon is tempered or not on the sides. Grr.

How much room you need under the stand depends on what equipment you have in it and how much room you need to remove and replace components and easily clean.

It sounds like your pups are getting a nice home !

Wow can't wait to see the progress! So the guy said no foam? Thats very odd. I'd use it anyway especially if I was building my own stand incase the top where the tank sits has a few imperfections.

i'd def. use foam, even though the guy said no( which i found odd also) i would add it for extra insurance. plus its cheap.

thats false. i use foam under all my tanks. from 2 gal up to 150 gal. ask him where he saw that, id like a good read :grinno:

Okay here is his reply

Do not use styrofoam or rubber, it is a petroleum product with chemicals that will slowly eat away at the bottom panel of your tank, other customers have done this without asking and approx within 1 - 3 yrs the tank fails
Like I told you rest the tank on 3/4" plywood only (no screws in the plywood - leave it loose)
the plwyood plies will normaly crush and level off when you fill the tank, it's meant to ..
