Hey guys,

This is a brand new 187g glass tank that I just had setup and running for almost 2 weeks. I just got home from work a few hours ago to see/hear the bad news. Only my sister and uncle were home at the time when it happened.

They just saw water gushing from underneath my door. When they opened it, water came rushing all over the house (thankfully for tile floor). The leak seemed to be coming from the bottom of the tank. My sister saved my aimara and put him in my 125g!

Could it be because I was using a cynderblock/2x4/plywood stand? I used 5 stacks of cynderblocks, two 2x4's laying on top, and 3/4" plywood laying completely over it. Everything seemed leveled when it was setup.

Well I'm pretty devastated right now. I spent quite a lot of money and did a lot of work to get the tank up and running...not to mention the fish. Not too sure I want to take the risk of getting a glass tank repaired.

Sorry for the long post. Just needed to vent a bit and get you guys' input on this.

:(:(

did you put a level on it before filling with water to make sure it was level? im guessing the silicone seam leaked?

if the tank was properly level and flat, then it sounds like there was nothing you could have done better to set it up. a cinderblock/plywood type stand is perfectly fine considering that most stands for glass tanks are permimeter only.

sounds like a defective silicone seam.

very rare for a brand new tank.

I would contact the manufacturer because this should be covered by warranty.

good luck and sorry for your issues.

Maybe not. Most of the major tank manufacturers state in their warranty that the tank is only covered if you're using their stand.

Post some pics of your setup, maybe someone can spot a problem.

What bad luck! I have nightmares about that happening to my 265gal but thankfully it never has. Better luck with the next one mate.

Depending on how long you ran your tank, it sounds like it could be a defect right from the manufacturer... i have a similar problem with my 200G when i first got it, there was a tiny hole in the silicone and it started to leak very slowly over 2 weeks, until i realized there was a puddle of water underneath my tank...

So if your tank is now empty and still in one piece? i would fill it VERY SLOWLY with water to see if you can find out where the leak is coming from and then see if you, or maybe the place you purchased your tank from can fix it for you...

i dont think the cyderblock and plywood had anything to do with that because that what i have done as well as family and friends and never had problems like that.

Not the Cinder block stand. I have 2 on them. I vote for defective tank
