New tank completely leaked...What did I do wrong?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No one can rule out the Cinder block stand. Your statement that "Everything seemed leveled when it was set up." tells me you never used a level to make sure it was level and flat. Eye balling is not enough. Any corner could have been lower/higher than the rest causing cross torsional stress on the tank. This will easily cause a seem to let go or even crack the glass.

i just had to use shims under my stand to raise one side by almost 1cm but it "seemed level" when i test filled and checked it over. once i put the level on it it showed it was out by quite a bit.

you need to check, check and check again with the proper tools when your dealing with so much water. even if you dont have a spirit level you can get them very cheap.

however, i would speak to the manufacturer but i would bet they will void your warranty because you didnt even use a proper tank stand. DIY will likely void a warranty no matter how well it's built.

if they wont cover it then look at your contents insurance, that may cover for accidental damage.

It may help if we can see exactly how the stand was constructed. Sorry for your loss. I am terrified that my 135 could do the same, even though it has a ridiculously strong stand that weighs like 400 pounds lol.
