i just got a tank out of a skip it is around 15 by 15 by 60. will make a nice uprade from my 29 but there is a crack in the bottom panel it is large but does not reach each side. i will get a pic tomorrow when the uns out but i was wondering how would i go about patching it ?
thanks

dont use glue first of all use aquarium sealer. first apply it to the crack itsself. then wait till it dries. then put a sheet of plexi glass over it and apply the sealer to th edges so that it will have full bottom protection then with the same sealer do it over the crack even tho it did not go thru but still do it from the inside as well

only way to go is to get a larger piece of glass than the the tank bottom and glue it tottally over the tank bottom ( from the outside ). Put also sealer on the inside above the crack, BUT THAT CRACK WILL GO ON UNTILL IT REACHES THE ENDS OF THE GLASS.

So you have to make a new bottom, glued under the cracked bottom and, as said, bigger than the bottom, so that it comes out on all sides of the bottom and you do a seal of glue all around the base of the tank...

Like other have said the crack will grow until it reaches the edge of the glass. Dose the tank have a plastic frame around the bottom? If it dose I'd remove the plastic frame then remove the whole bottom and replace it with another piece of glass. Its really not all that hard and you will be assured that it will be fixed. Trying to use a full size patch to cover the bottom isn't the best idea . I seen people try and more times than not it doesn't work out in the long run.

i have a panel of glass the perfect size but it is pretty thin. the tank still holds water so i thinking silicon the new panel to the old one and silicon the joint.put a lot on and fill the tank on a level surface so the silicon spreads even and forms a strong joint. will this work ?
thanks in advance:headbang2

how thin and is it tempered?

also.. whats a "skip"

I would replace the glass before I would put another piece on the bottom. I would think it would hold longer.
