ummm... ok!!
i have a brand new tank coming on friday:headbang2.. and the filters i have are:

1- FX5 filled with biomax and sub pro (cycled)

1- cascade 1000 filled with biomax (cycled)

2-ac110 with sponge and biomax ONLY ONE IS FULLY CYCLED THE OTHER HALF CYCLED.

when the tank comes, im going to put 50% of my current tanks water in the new one and top off the rest like a WC. and alittle of the current sand im using (3m), then im going to run the fx5 and the half cycled AC110 on the new tank with about 10 small feeder fish (since i have a 10 galllon full of them) and continue to run the cascade and cycled AC110 on the current tank with my fish in it until the new tank is ready..

my questions are.. how long APPROX. will it take before the new tank is safe to put the pbass and black aro into it? and how long before being able to add the cascade and ac110 onto it? will i have any problems with anything spiking when adding the other 2 filters onto the tank? should i add the ac110 one day wait a few days then add the cascade?

thanks

2 days. let the water get up to temp. then throw them in.

or you can do something else.

i can put the water in at the exact temp as needed from the faucet so i wouldnt need to wait for that. whats the "SOMETHING ELSE" i can do?

I would put them in right away. I put a new AC filter with used media on my new 90 gallon and a little bit of used media in my XP4, and the tank was cycled right off the bat.

I would compare the ph of the old and new tank, if they are way different you might have a mini cycle the first week or so. check your ammonia and nitrites daily and after a week if everything is Ok I would add your nicer fish.

The filters and fish can all be transfered at the same time. A little more info would be helpful. Old tank size, new tanks size, stock of the old tank, intended stock to be moved to the new tank.

Also how much and how often do you currently do water changes?

If the filters are cycled as you say, problems should be minimal

if you are keeping the same bioload (for now anyway) and only increasing the water you should not have any issues..

the BB live ON surfaces of things.. they are not free floating in the water (well.. there are BB in the water.. but just because you drive down the highway does not mean you live in your car on the highway)...

if you put your filters on the new tank and then stop the bioload (by not adding fish) you are going to starve the BB living in the filters..
the bioload from "10 small feeders" is nowhere near enough to keep the BB alive.. they handle bioload of your pbass and your aro..

same exact tank size, 2-pbass, 1-black aro, 2-plecos about 3-4" and the same stock going into the new tank. WC 50% every 2 days..

i planned on testing my water everyday before putting them in the tank i just wanted to get a GUESSTIMATE on how long im looking at because i dont know if i should just set the 55 gallon tank up or just buy a big rubbermaid storage to keep them in if its only a day or 2 BUT IF A WEEK THEN I WILL GO WITH THE 55 GALLON
