New Tank! :D

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you plan on getting a Silver Aro you are going to have to upgrade to larger aquarium. The 180 will be ok for a couple of years or less.
yeah i've already thought about that, im prepared to go bigger for the fishes future. On the other hand ive been looking into jordinis which ive heard will do perfect in a 180 for their full life span!

Yeah man, 180 is not going to be anywhere near big enough for a silver Aro long term. Peacock bass will outgrow it as well. I would rethink your stocking. The tank looks great tho. What are you running for filtration?
yeah im fully prepared for their future if or when it comes to that. Im looking at jordinis which might be a better solution. I currenty have 2 1500 canister filters. might be switching to a sump but not positive

Wait, is that a full support under that? Acrylic tanks have to be supported by a solid base underneath or they'll bow and blow out...glass tanks only need support on the edges and crossbars. I couldn't tell from the pics. If that's open under the tank you'll need to put a level base over the frame. Hope I'm wrong...

this is good advice. If that's a standard steel stand with only support around the outer edges, I'd get some wood cut to use as a top inbetween the stand and tank. So it's evenly supported on the bottom.

it is open on the bottom and only secured from the sides. The previous owner didn't tell me if it is acrylic but it does have a solid top with cut out holes so my guess it is. He ran this exact set up for quite some time. How thick of wood do you think would fix this issue? glad i came here and got some opinions thats for sure. Also is a good way to check if its acrylic is taping it with a coin to hear a difference? sounds dumb but thats what im reading. thank you

here is the bottom of the tank. It does have some bottom support but do you think its enough to secure the tanks future? let me know and thank you again!
dont mind the rust marks. i only grinded and painted the sides visible IMG_2685.JPG

Can't verify the thickness or structure of that base...I'd get a door plank without the hole cut from the hardware store and get it cut to size. Sand the edges and paint the edges for appearance and to help seal it. I think door planks are 3/4" to 1" thick. Use industrial glue and let it set up. You should be fine after that. Also get one of those tank pads and put over the wood, set the tank on it and you'll be ready to go.

damn thats a set back but atleast I know now and can fix it. Sounds dumb but im just confirming.. glue it to the stand? Also i have never heard of a tank pad, could you possibly link me my best options. rather be correct then buy the wrong ones

Yeah your tank is definitely acrylic, they only really make these things out of glass and acrylic. I'd do just as Finwin says, get a nice piece of wood cut to size. And also put a foam mat inbetween the tank and the wood. I use yoga mats for this purpose, you can get them at 5 below for 5 bucks and cut to size.
