Thank you, he's a great turtle!
Alot of turtle people are amazed that I have him as a pet. They might think I'm the only one in CAlifornia.
I live in Northern CA, San Jose and found him here while fishing. I thought it was another one of those thrown-away pets but this guy seemed different than the redear sliders so I took him home. I looked him up and found out he's a Sonora Mud Turtle..An extinct species in CA. I was like oh god..I took home something real big.. So I contacted Department of Fish & Game of CA, and they said in my area there should be none but since they are still on the Native Species List for Reptiles, they gave me a special permit for me to keep him. It would be illegal for me to release him back though.
The DFG is thinking someone took them from around ARizona(where there's still a small population) and brought it here and released it for some apparent reason.
For a wild guy, he's pretty tame so I am sure that this guy was a pet somewhere.

And I'm guessing BB as in bottled bacteria, is something you can buy at pet stores in bottles..

I ment BB as benifical bacteria not bottled but cycling a turtle tank is not a necessity.... I do 100% on all my turtles a week. I wouldn't worry about cycling with bottled bacteria waste of money IMO....

All right.

Do you think it's possible to keep bluegill(that are pretty big) with him? They are from contaminated water though..with mercury.
Do you think I can feed it bass and bluegill minnows..with mercury?

Can I do this when cleaning the fliter media..?

First wash everything down with the sink, and then soak the filter media in a bucket full of aquarium water for a few minutes?

All right.
Like, just shake the media around in a bucket?
