New Tank Ideas!!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I like the idea of having a variety of species in the tank. I really like frontosa's, but from what I have been told and read they really should be kept alone as a colony - so that is one negative.

I'm hooked on the Large Haps right now, so i vote that.
Buccochromis nototaenia
Dimidiochromis compressiceps
Nimbochromis fuscotaeniatus
Nimbochromis livingstoni
Super VC-10
Even throw in some Fronts!
Cyrtocara moorii
Rhamphochromis longiceps

Clownknife - are you saying those are species that would do well with frontosas or is that a list of Tangs that do well together? I would love to keep some frontosas, but again I would like a variety of species. So if they really should be kept alone then I probably won't go that route.

With that, I think I am leaning toward a predatory hap tank or a community Tang tank. If someday I can have a fishroom (or a third tank large enough) I will probably do a frontosa colony.

Robulus - I like your list of haps. At least some of those are already on my potential wish list either for my "new" tank, or the old one when I restock it after the move.

Somebody on another forum said I should look into eartheater cichlids (Geophagus altifrons or steindachneri). They looked interesting, but I don't know anything about them. I have looked into them a bit and they are gorgeous fish. Does anybody know anything about them (I know this is probably the wrong part of the forum to ask about them)?

Oh, I meant that those I listed do well together without frontosas...but frontosas could possibly work...& now your maybe deciding upon S.A. cichlids? Sorry to hear that lol...they're cool too though, no doubt, but IMO they aren't as cool as tangs or frontosas! :P

A Comp and a frontosa? No thanks.... Sick? Oh helllllll yeahhhh... Deadly? Probability.... Fin nipping..... Positive lol

Didn't mean I was going with S.A. cichlids. Just thought they sounded interesting and wanted to maybe find out some more information. I am almost positive that I am going to do an african tank, but I am trying to keep my options open.

I gotchya lol. Whatever you get i'm sure it will be really cool. 125's in and of themselves are cool so anything else is just a bonus. Good luck with your tank and post up some pics when you get it created. I know it will be a long time, but i'll keep this thread handy lol.
