New Tank Input Requested

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You are right mike......I think any Cichlid is aggressive when they spawn.....I don't have that problem as I move the male to the female tank..........If I want more.........However, my all male tanks are pretty peaceful..........Nothing to fight over.............and they are so colorful...I love my peacocks....However, they are all male so the aggression just isn't there

thanks for all the input guys .... so basically if i want good color i need all males? thats gonna be tuff since i wanna buy juvies to keep the cost down ....any other suggestions?, before i go buy something;)

it's ok if you buy the juvies. just separate the males from the females as they mature.

Personally I would go mbuna because you get great colors and most of the species are really easy to breed. Also they are usually less expensive and if you are careful they are not as likely to interbreed. Oh, and if you choose your species carefully the females are just as beautiful as the males (literally look exactly the same) or look different, but still have great colors. You don't get that with peacocks. In my 125g I don't even try for breeding (except keeping good 1M:3F ratios) and have at least one female holding at any time. Most of the fry get eaten, but I have had a few make it. Also, you could add some haps to the tank (I don't suggest mixing peacocks with mbuna) for a nice size difference.

Let us know what you decide.

Looks good.. but it would've been better if you kept it all malawi... Zebra Obliqudens can hang w/ malawi's but I don't know about jewels.. and convicts (if i saw it right).. >.<

The jewel cichlids will be fine, I just hope you don't have a male and female. If you do....they breed like crazy and terrorize their tankmates. Nice pickups and keep us posted.
