i have a 6 inch SRD flowerhorn in a 110 gallon tank. I want to add another fish, one that grows big and looks cool. i was thinking either a pleco or a red devil. if anyone has any idea on what tankmate a flowerhorn can live with plz give me an idea. Also, i want to know how to make it grow bigger its been 7 months and it hasnt grown very much. i feed it once a day 20 pellets.

It really depends on your flowerhorn personality if he like tank mates or not because mine kill anything that get into his tank. I feed mine 3 times a day pellets mostly and treats in the middle.like bloodworms, brine shrimps, and planktons. He is growing big fast and very healthy. I starved him once a week no feed at all.

A 6 inch flower horn should be eating 2-3 times a day. Each feeding should be about 30-40 pellets. Thats what I feed my Red King Kamfa (the pic in my avatar) and he has grown quickly and is in great health. When you increase your feeding make sure you stay on top of your water changes. I do 40% water change once every ten days, but I only have two FHs in a 180 gallon with a ton of filtration so its adequate.

i have a 110 gallon only one flowerhorn and i do 25-30% water changes around every 10-12 days but i have 2 very large filters powering it its overfiltered. I havent changed the filters yet though its been nearly 8 months lol. idk how to clean out the filters and when to change them. is there a thread i can maybe read up on filter care?

When cleaning a filter you want to keep the beneficial bacteria in the foam or on the bio wheel/bio-balls. You can change out the carbon. After a while the carbon wont be affective anymore and will need to be changed. When cleaning the foam or bio-balls, DO NOT clean them in the sink. The chlorine in your water will kill all of the beneficial bacteria that your tank uses. What you can do is use the water from your water change to clean the junk out of them. Put some of the water change water into a 5 gallon bucket and swish the foam and bio-balls in that water to get the build up off. Then they will be good to go.

Also, you should never change the bio balls, but you can put a new foam pad in every once in a while. I try to put a new one in every month-2months. Same with the carbon.

Don't change both filters at the same time. You'll harm the filter load. Change them (clean them) once a month or two.... No longer.... and alternate the filters. One this month, the other next month.

alright cool. I don't have bio balls I have carbon though. should I add the bio balls once I do a change? and also, I heard sometimes u can wait like half a year before u actually do a change and change out the foam and stuff. Other than that, every 1-2 months dipping the foam and bioballs in fish water should be fine right? also, I feed my flowerhorn hikari pellets nothing else . I use to feed him bloodworms but someon told me they cause problems later. the hikeri pellet look kinda small. does it matter what size they are? I might go buy some large ones today if it matters. also how do u get the hump bigger? its been 7 months no change. The hump just stays kinda big.
