new tank mate for my flowerhorn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
alright cool. I don't have bio balls I have carbon though. should I add the bio balls once I do a change? and also, I heard sometimes u can wait like half a year before u actually do a change and change out the foam and stuff. Other than that, every 1-2 months dipping the foam and bioballs in fish water should be fine right? also, I feed my flowerhorn hikari pellets nothing else . I use to feed him bloodworms but someon told me they cause problems later. the hikeri pellet look kinda small. does it matter what size they are? I might go buy some large ones today if it matters. also how do u get the hump bigger? its been 7 months no change. The hump just stays kinda big.

You may want to upgrade to bigger pellets. I use the medium pellets for my 7" flowerhorn. I would wait until you finish your bag you have now though. No sense in wasting it. I feed freeze dried brine shrimp as a treat 1 or 2 times a week. Blood worms are fine, some people are just concerned that they may give their fish parasites. You should be fine to add the bio balls whenever. Also you can optionally get away with 6 months of you rinse the foam well. But I would change the carbon about 2-3 months tops. Just run the New carbon under your sink so you get all the support find Debris out.

A 6 inch flower horn should be eating 2-3 times a day. Each feeding should be about 30-40 pellets. Thats what I feed my Red King Kamfa (the pic in my avatar) and he has grown quickly and is in great health. When you increase your feeding make sure you stay on top of your water changes. I do 40% water change once every ten days, but I only have two FHs in a 180 gallon with a ton of filtration so its adequate.

80 pellets a day?.. your talking about some super tiny pellets right?

Damn. I guess I'm under feeding my fh. 6" and gets 15 2mm pellets a day. Perhaps that's why his kok is small. Informative thread. 👏

Op...I've only had luck with parrotfish with my fh. Even that gal shredded his fins a bit, but nothing serious.

your not really underfeeding. 80 pellets is just plain out over feeding and will harm the health of the fish.. You'll have a fat flowerhorn and not a healthy one. Depends on the size though he might be talking about tiny pellets.. Your feeding seems about perfect for his size.

My flowerhorn eat 30 pellets a day large pellets Hikari Gold but again he is only 4.5 inches.

Didnt you say feed two times a day 30-40 pellets a day.. of the large? So you feed twice a day with 15 pellets correct? Not 30-40 each feeding? Thats just outrageous. You are basically going through a bag every 2-3 weeks. At this rate your decreasing its life span..

I feed my 18 inch jag a palm full every other day and my palm holds only about 15 pellets. Your basically feeding a hand full a day and it will decrease the life of your fish...

I see thanks for info. My flowerhorn eat like 20 pellets a day sometimes he will eat more but mostly he eat around 20 pellets. I will decrease the amount of pellets to around 15 pellets like yours.
