New tank, move, and power outage.. HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I tested my water this morning before I left for work, and got
.5NH3 / 0 NO2 / 20-30ppm NO3

Hmmm interesting... I was expecting to see some nitrites today if some of my BB wasnt alive. But by the lack of them I am guessing one of two things.

1. Some nitrite bacteria survived, or the stability really does work.

2. My tests were not accurate yesterday due to poor circulation after the addition of ammonia.

But that still doesn't account for the nitrates! They are definatly higher in this test sample. So one of two things:

1. My tests are skewwed from dirty test tubes/ out of date/contaminated chemical bottles.

2. SOMETHING (BB/stability) IS WORKING!

I added 50ml ammonia and 50ml stability. I did not test the ammonia after I added it. I assumed there are 20 drops in a ml, if I use the cycle guide on here (20 drops per gallon).

Ok Guys I gotta run! I gotta gravel vac and scrub about 60 tanks at work before a corporate visit tomorrow!

I would just move the cycled filter and fish to the new tank and dose with prime. There really should not be a problem as long as you are not increasing the amount of fish that were in the 125g. Keep an eye on water params and maybe have to do a few extra W/Cs if they start to elevate.

I was wondering if that would work. It's not an exact science, but I don't wanna risk it. I added ammonia now, so I don't have an option but to let it run it's course.

I just tested the water

ph 7.9 nh3 5ppm/ NO2 .25/NO3 30ppm

Hurray nitrites! I feel kinda guilty about urging them on.....

I didn't add any ammonia this morning, nor did I check the water ( long damn day). I did check it this evening and found 0-.15 nh3/0 no2/20-40ppm no3. I added 30ml nh3 to keep the process goi g.

I guess I underestimated the amount of BB that survived the power outtage!

Thank you all for your input, I was nervous about the cycle on a tank this large and the timeline!
