Hi, I'm Karl
So i have not been on here or had a fish tank in about 4 years but i just moved to a new apartment and bought a 55 gallon tank that i just filled with water a little gravel/sand (20lbs of Eco-complete African chichlid substrate). I put about 15 zebra Dino's in there to cycle it. I really want to set up a sting ray tank i think they are beautiful animals. I know they are a sensitive bunch, but i do have experience with salt water and freshwater and think that i am up for the challenge. I would also like to put an arowana into the tank as well. Any help and insite i can get would be great. My local lfs is selling a florida ray for 99$ and they said its been at the store for a year so far... and he looks healthy and happy and is in a much smaller tank then my 55 gallon. Any suggestions on online retaillers would be great as well.

Many thanks in advance.

stingrays and arowanas work together fine but they will not last long in a 55. A ray needs a very wide tank and an arowana needs a long tank. Keep in mind that a 55 (if it is the demensions I am thinking) is a very thin tank and not really well suited for a ray, and too small for any arowana to live in for more than a year. In a 55 you can do many other fish such as an oscar or some piranhas but for the fish you chose, a much bigger tank is nessesary. BTW: do you have any pics of the ray? I have never heard of a Florida Ray. Is is fresh or salt?

its fresh water hes really pretty all white i don have and pics but i googled him nad found some...my tank is about four feet long by 1 foot wide

i was thinking mabye pirhana or mabey discus.. or some big cats for the bottom idk this is hard deciding what kind of tank andi really fell in love with the ray at the lfs hes living in a really small tank there and has been at the store for a year the tank cant be more then 30 gallons or so and is high rather then long poor guy

55 is way to small sorry, careful with those florida rays too, they are atlantic rays that have been converted to freshwater and they produce alot more uritha in thier attempt to stay alive in freshwater you need a huge filtration system to acomidate that

yeah I have the same tank and it is unfortunitly a bit small to house those fish for life, however you could grow them out in it if you have a bigger tank waiting.

yes you could but it would have to be a very large tank. people will tell you different things about exactly how big.

is that a bad idea grow the fish out for a year or so then upgrade tanks when they get to big??? if this is an ok idea what species of stingray and arowana do u suggest i plan on buying a very small arowana ang growing him

my lfs has a motoro as well for 149 but i dont know the details behind him how long hes been there wether or not he is eating
