i can move the filter to the new tank and i plan on running it as long as i can (its actualy a roomates whos moving out) but the new wheels are longer than the established filters :thumbsdow

tommorows the big day!! buying the new tank and some bio spira hopefully have the fish moved in by monday!!

i dont see why it would hurt, never heard of that, might as well, it wont hurt

When I am setting up a new tank, I have a method I use, and haven't lost anything to new tank syndrome yet. I usually put more than one filter on a tank (ex a canister and 2 HOB, or 2 HOB alone depending on the size. When I get the new tank filled, I put a new filter on it, and take a filter from one of my cycled tanks, and run them both for about 24 hours. While that is going on, I take the other new HOB and put it on the tank I took the established filter from. If possible, I put a bit of cycled filter media into the new filter below the new media. This way, both tanks have a new filter and an established one. (I used HOB in alloccasions, but you should get the same result with a canister I believe) I let them run this way for as long as I can stand, at least 24 hours. If possible, I throw a few feeders in the new tank, to produce a small amount of waste. This has worked for me multiple times. Good luck.

If I am doing this completely wrong, someone please correct me, I would hate to spread harmful advice.

is it worth my money to by bio spira? or will the filter establish my water enough that it wont matter. also will tap water conditioner kill the bacteria in my filter and if so how long should i wait to put the filter on/ do i need to just tap water conditioner with a established filter

today is the day! by the end of tonight i will have gotten my new tank put into my room and be able to begin the transition process!!!

it seems that i eat mac and cheese all week, get my paycheck on friday go to the lfs and buy everything my heart and wallet desires and then sit around the next week wondering: how the heck is it that all i can afford is mac and cheese!?:D :grinno:

I think we're all a little like that. Except maybe Li. He could sell 3 pairs of shoes and buy out an lfs.

Had to chuckle about the mac and cheese comment.....been there, done that. Years ago I hung around a LFS in Tacoma, WA, so much that the guy that owned it put me to work cleaning tanks, changing water, etc. I learned a lot about the hobby back then and got free fish. Luckily I have a pretty good job today so I can buy whatever I want when I want it.....long as the wife doesn't get too crazy about my purchases.....but I do remember trying to get by with doing as much with my fish as I could on very little. It'll all work out in the long run. :)
