New tank, new oscar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What's the problem with you ehh?? My fish are always very healthy, I can feed my fish a gold fish if I please! The oscar will be about 6" when I move him back into my 90 you act like they grow 2.5" a month ! I do bi-weekly water changed of 10%

10% twice a week, wow impressive.

Update on my oscar and tinfoils I couldn't resist and I'm selling my 20 for 60$ and I've lined up a purchase of a 55 gallon for 60$ full set up so I'm gonna give these guys a better home! Also got a jack Dempsey. Will have the 55 up and running Saturday.

Good job on upgrading the 20gl.......the problem is your still going to be over stocked in the 55 and the 90, The 90 is a great tank for a full grown adult Oscar and your WC schedule 10% twice a week is only going to prolong eventual failure. I grew my Oscar in a 75gl by himself from 3" to 13" in 18mths, I was changing 60-75% twice a week while running 2 fluval canisters filters a 305 & a 405. IMO You need to be doing 75% at least once a week and you will see the benefit thru your fish, they will be bigger and much happier.

If jd shows aggression I will rehome him. Your telling me I can't keep a single oscar in a 90 gallon with 10% water change and gravel vac twice a week without success !!?? The minimum for oscars seems to keep rising?

I'd do a little more than 10% but a 90 is perfectly fine for a single Oscar

If the oscar is 3 inches in the 90 gal and alone (which he isn't) then your 10% should be fine but in a year that isnt going to work. In my 75 with my 9 inch red devil, I do 50% weekly to keep nitrates down.
Also those tin foils won't do too well in a 4 foot tank. I feel bad for spotted silver dollars in a four foot tank. They're too quick and move around too much to be kept long term in something that short.

If you re read my post it says "The 90 is a great tank for an full grown adult Oscar" I am telling you if you only do a 10% WC twice a week your water quality over time is going to suffer. I would recommend you buy a test kit and monitor your nitrates when they get to 20ppm it's time to do a WC, do your 10% and watch how quickly it will climb back up to 20ppm.

I'm not looking for an argument just trying to help.
