I don't think that you can add just one cichlid, I think that you would have to add a few and they would have to be the right size. Maybe even add dithers if you have to.
Congrats on the new tank! Ahh, stocking the ultimate grey area in the hobby. I think I would try something that is a different shape from the pearsei, since he does not mess with the bichir maybe a more elongated compressed cichlid would be ignored.
I would probably avoid other cichlids, maybe get a couple bala sharks since they r different shaped.

What I've had lots of success with is adding different age/sizes of fish. IE, I have 2 3-4 year old Argentea, and I don't think adding another 1-2 adult Argentea to that tank would be worth the risk--but I'd really be proud to say "I had a breeding pair of Argetea".
So, I added 5 4 inch juvies. The 5 inch ones fight among themselves a little bit, but the adult Argentea don't even notice they're in the tank.
So, pick a species you'd really like to breed--Trimacs, Carpintis, Zonatus, put a group in the tank with the Pearsii while they're young and the Pearsii probably won't care. If he does, put a couple different types of structure the smaller fish can easily hide--they'll be cool with that.
As they grow, the Pearsii is very likely to grudgingly accept the situation, and then, when the fish pair off and breed, they'll be too small to kill the Pearsii, but the 2 of them together can defend an area of the tank to breed successfully.
Congratz on the new tank! Think the pearsi and a bocourti look a little too similar to get along well generally, however I think a 300 is a whole different ball park than a 150. Looking at examples like justarn tank, things I normally wouldn't think go together work out for a time.
My guy has calmed down a bit too but i dont trust him...think he's playing rope a dope with me lol. You got your loosellei from rapps right ?
Lol, I don't think that he's a killer, just a jerk. No my loisellei actually came from the wet spot was supposed to be a RTM. I'm about to do an order with Rapps for some loisellei this week because I want a pair.
lol why do people make cichlids more complicated then they really are.Oh yeah by no means do i think hes a killer more of jerk that has the determination to get himself killed or beaten up badly by other fish...or just bother the crap out of them
Def tag me on the loiselle thread when u get them
lol why do people make cichlids more complicated then they really are.
Step 1.) get a dozen different cichlids of different species
Step 2.) raise them in a different tank to be big enough to fare well against the Pearsei
Step 3.) introduce all fish at once to the new tank and pay close attention everyday
Step 4.) be prepared to move anything that gets bullied
Step 5.) keep everything well-fed
Step 6.) tellFrank Castle how to get 300g tank
I think your biggest chance of success is by adding a group of smaller cichlids, cryptoheros, Thorichthys or Rheoheros species. They may be ignored or be looked on as a minor irritation rather than competition or a test for dominance.
The bioload of a small group of cichlids would probably not be any more than that of one or two bigger cichlids.
Does that mean i get your old tank?umm because they are.... probably the most intelligent and complicated species I've ever kept lol.
well steps 1 through 4 aren't feasible unless you can figure out how to get my wife not to lose it lol cant do all those cichlids being that I'm getting the new tank one of my existing tanks is probably gonna go. Will have one around to grow some fish out but there wont be anywhere for them to go if things don't work out long tern. Now getting 1 or 2 wont be an issue but not dozens
as for step 6.... hahaha save , save and save
do like cryptoheros had an hrp that was beautiful but long term may not work...if it fits in the polys mouth it will end up in the belly at some point
