cheers guys, i used a spray gun and just thinned the paint a bit.
Also two coats of barrier guard which will stop any water penetrating the wood if it ever comes in contact.

Hopefully transfer my fish over tonight, pics to come
 
The tank and stand looks good.Awesome on the painting.
