i know i need to upgrade my tank size to house mbunas, and i'm looking for some advice. I live in an apartment, so space is limited. I'm still trying to figure out where to put a new tank/convince my wife, so i don't want to go too large. I would like a 90 or 120, but i don't think i can fit it. I want to keep at least 12 mbunas from lake malawi, including red zebras and mainganos. opinions are welcome. thanks!

Well...all those tanks are 4' long. Is depth an issue? The 90g and 75g are both 18" wide. Would you be able to go 2' wide? If so, I'd vote 120g...if not, I'd go with 90g which is a bit taller than a 75g. My buddy lives in an apartment and we were able to fit a 120g through the door.

i know i could fit it through the door, its more an issue of having a wall my wife will let me use :( we have a 2 yr old son and we have a new baby on the way. If i can convince her to put the tank in my son's room, then we can totally do a 120. I'm on a budget too, so i wanna get the most bang for my buck, but i am probably going to be an opportunist and take what i can find on ebay or craigslist.

just spoke with her and its like pulling teeth trying to get her to agree to it. the space she say i can use is in our bedroom. it cannot be more than 2 feet wide, and the wall is only 4 feet wide with doors on each side, so i would be cutting it close going with a tank that was 4 feet long. the cool thing about my wife is once she sees the tank setup and in place, she will love it. but its like political lobbying to try to get funding for the project!

I say take the measurements for the 120 and see if you can get it between those doors in the bedroom. There is also a 150 tall that is only 4 feet. Not sure how much it costs though. Before she informed you that the bedroom was the place for the tank, I was also thinking a 92 corner would make a nice mbuna tank.

LoLoL....man I know how that is

IMHO, I would opt for a tank that is 60 inches in length. I have a 75g Truvu that is 60".....perfect sized tank when I kept peacocks, haps, and Mbuna.

i would be happy with a 75 if thats all i could get. i just know myself, and i would get a 75 and then decide i want a bigger tank
