I'd go with a true parrot hoplarchus psittacus for the last tank mate and the 180gallon.
...aren't they really big?

I think it's going to be the 180 gallon.

So,

1 Oscar
1 Severum
1 Chocolate
1 other @12" or so SA cichlid ( what about a uaru?)

then,

5-7 Silver Dollars
...is this a good idea? They get kinda big too.

if no Silver dollars, any other suggestions for some non-cichlids?

I can get a 180 gallon that is drilled with 2 overflows for $685.

OR

I could get a 220 gallon that is not drilled for $680.

...I am building my own stand.

I know many will say get the 220 and just drill it myself, and while that sounds great, I honestly don't think I have the "stones" to do it. :uhoh:

So I guess my question is what kind of canister setup would it take to filter the 220? How many? What kind?

...and do you think I could expand my stocklist if I went with the 220?

footprints: 180gal-72"x24"x24"
220gal-72"x24"x30"

...now that I look at it, all the 220 does is add height so I guess my stocklist will just stay with what I posted.

...thanks for your suggestions and advice.

i'd just go for the 180 drilled. i think it'd be easier to filter it with a sump, 55-75g tank, than trying to run 2-3larger canisters. if you did go for the 220g and run canisters i'd run 2 fx5s and a hob or two, AC110s. in the long run i think the sump will be easier to set up and be cheaper. the 6" height wont make too much of a difference, now if it was a 72x30 compared to a 72x24 it be a different story
