New tank stocking day dreamer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya know i was thinking about an arro or jar but was unsure of what the bioload would be like. I dont wanna do multiple wc's per week.

What do you think

What about a black? So you don't run the risk of having to deal with the possible aggression.

I don't think 30" is enough space for any aro other than a jardini and possibly African.

He didn't say that was the exact width, I just suggested it since blacks grow slower like a jar, and not to large, I personally never heard of one larger than 30" that was I believe atleast 5 years old, maybe it was 7, there's a video on it with another black and two silvers in a 450, I've only read of blacks getting bigger, and it was just people saying it, no proof or personal experience stated. That being said, blacks are also very thin and flexible, more so than silvers. You put a same size black in a tank as wide as the aro is long the black would be more comfortable than a jar, and people have had jars more than 2' so I'd put a black before a jar, due to them growing to a similar size, being more peaceful, and being more flexible, I'd say it's a better fit than a jar. Just my opinion though. Evz has stated he's had his large ornate with every jar he's kept though, and they left him alone for the most part so, idk whatever you prefer will possibly work imo with the exception being the level of aggression your jar specimen shows. Im going off of actual experiences I read, that have had proof. Personally I've never kept neither. So take it with a grain of salt if you will. Maybe you should post in the arowana section and ask what would better suit your aquarium once you know the size your getting, list tankmates etc. they can help you out.

The tank is most likely going to be 30inches wide. Yeah i definitely dont want anything to mess with the polys

The aggression is the main part why I don't have a jar. I'd probably have one if the aggression wasn't there. It doesn't mean I think they'd be the most aggressive fish in the tank, but that there's a chance that their aggressions can reach dangerous levels. Levels I would rather not venture into with my Polys.

Well the main reason for the tank is to give the polys a more chill environment. Dont want any aggression mainly aggressive feeding. Been dealing with the pearsei and i dont enjoy it. Gonna look into the black aro but still the main peice to this tank is the polys.

Main question is how many LJ's would you guys put in a 300ish +sump 96x30 (width) and have a secent maintenance routine 1 weekly wc.

A black aro is supposed to be the least aggressive and most calm if the aros which is why I suggested it. If it were me, personally I only like one specimen of a species unless it's a shoaling species, that being said I'd get a lap, PBB, ornate, weeksii, teugelsi, and then a wolf or some wolves like a mala and curu and gold, or maybe just two or just one, whatever I can get away with, and to have some open water swimmers for activity, an odoe or another characin

Thx for the suggestions moe.

Never thought of odoe's or wolves. I read a few threads that said polys and wolves get along well.

This tank os gonna be fun lol

As for the polys i kind of just wanna stick with LJ's except for the ornate but this will probably change the closer i get to setting it up.
You gave me some homework to do lol
