I'm considering getting another tank ... just a 30
as of now I have a 8 and a 55
the five is just plants.
the 55 has plants
3 ropes
3 rams
1 blood parrot
2 giant danio
2 rosy barbs
a soon to be gone pleco
a twig cat
oh and two african butterflys
and two knives

if I get this new 30 what should I get..
I really want a hardcore preditor tank.
could I put two rams in the 8?
throw the barbs a ram a butterfly maybe... the parrot?
into the 30 and get a pikehead for the 55..
or a crazyfish.
maybe a needlenose gar or two..
or..
get the thirty and a few target puffers...
or make that a mini preditor tank.
thoughts?
I really want to have preditory fish though whether in the 30 or the 55
so size does matter I guess
really would like some input.

There are a couple of different things you could do. I'm just gonna throw out some ideas.
Planted SA tank Put the rams, barbs, and maybe the twig cat in the 30g and heavily plant it.
Mini Predator tank I think going with an African Bushfish (or 2) would be cool. They aren't exactly the kind of fish that will tear apart feeder fish - they are a little more passive... they'll simply eat anything smaller than them while you're not looking. They're very pretty though. You could also throw in the butterflies if you wanted to.
I'm a real sucker for planted tanks, so maybe my answer is a little biased. I think you should plant the 30g and then go from there;)

oh I was never not going to plant it
I've always had planted tanks.. never not had plants in any of my tanks..
I thought about getting a leapord cet and putting it in the 30 with the rams and barbs and my small butterfly maybe my smaller knife probably not..
that frees up my 55 a ton..
so what in there..
I'd love a wolffish/gar type preditor.

I like the direction you're taking the 30g. I don't think I would add any of the knives to the 30. The rams, barbs, butterfly, and twig cat would probably fill it up nicely with room for a couple more fish if you wanted.
I'm not real sure what to suggest for the 55. Both Wolf Fish and Gars get too big and I've been wracking my brain for something "big and bad predator", but I can't think of anything that would fit in a 55...
I think you should go to your LFS and look around. Write down the name of whatever catches your eye. As I said before, Leopard bushfish are cool, but they are somewhat skittish at first.

wouldn't the leopard fit best in the 30 honestly.. as far as the sa thing..
and I think the red wolf fish would fit it well woudln't it. I just don't want it to eat my knives or my ropes

Well, the Leopards are from Africa, so they could fit in with the African theme.
The Wolf fish would be kinda iffy. You'd have to get him when he's very small, so he won't beat up/eat any of your other fish. I'd be kinda worried about the ropefish, since they stay rather thin their whole life.
I'm not really an expert on Wolf fish. I'm just saying what I've read.

yeah.. know anything about pikeheads?
and any gars that stay small maybe
I want to worry when I change the water in my tank.
I'm also thinking of getting the 30 planting it up and putting in a target puffer or two
that'd get some scared feeders

If you want to go with a puffer, Green spotted puffers and Figure-8 puffers are cool. The only drawback is that they need brackish water. If you did go with a puffer, you probably wouldn't be able to put the rams, barbs, etc in there. Which would also mean that you wouldn't have all that free space in the 55... something to think about.
The Pikeheads look pretty cool, but (like the Wolf fish) I don't know much about them.

well turns out wolffish are illegal
and I'm looking at the bigger puffers for a 30 and keep everything else in the 55 i think now ha.
