yeh looks good to me! if i had it and was going to replace the trim i would do a wood trim!!:headbang2
what about tops though?

I mean I know I can make some nice trim out of wood but what can I make tops out of?

Im agreeing with d-walt and zennzzo, either steel(fab yourself or call around to some shops, not a very intense project.) Or build a wooden frame.

If steel I would paint in POR 15(the steel won't ever rust with this stuff on there) then paint your paint of choice overtop the por 15, be it krylon fusion or marine expoy or whatnot. Krylon or epoxy covering the por 15 will make a leach free, rust free job.

If wood you could use a indoor/outdoor primer and krylon or epoxy on the inside, stain the outside, then some polyurethane or varnish to seal the exterior. Or just prime/paint the whole thing, up to you :)

Some good epoxy is probably a better choice overall and POR 15 is great for steel especially if you plan to keep the tank and don't wanna rust the rails' off it. :) Just remember the POR 15 needs a topcoating like epoxy or krylon fusion or whatnot............and a couple coats of top coat, as you wouldn't want to leach anything. That's why I say epoxy is best(the proper epoxy too, rattle can stuff is no good), the stuff is harder than nails and not gonna peel anytime soon.

I was Thinking bout a wood trim/top with hinges and the top being covered with screen.

Not too much screen or the tank will evaporate too much on you........I would do what you are thinking but with the top maybe 1/4 screen and 3/4 wood. Even that will still evaporate a good amount.

That is right I forgot about that.

If I can't find replacement trim then I am going to get metal trim fabbed so I can put glass covers on it.

What size covers do I need for this size tank?

what size covers? its up to you!!! that's the beauty of custom.
having some openings for cords/hoses, maybe a hob or whatever is more than enough airway to let any gases out. Just remember to tell him what you need Sketch somethin up on paper for him.

Find a couple pieces of glass you wanna use for top covers(i goto the 2nd hand store), find some nice hinges meant for glass(you can get ones that you dont have to drill the glass). Then measure the tank and take the measurements/hinges and glass to your metal man. Tell him you want your glass to sit flush with the metal when you close the glass lids. Some L shaped steel would work nice as it will look 'almost' factory, from your first glance anyway.....Don't forget some small round pieces of rubber for the glass so you don't smash it on the metal.

He will be able to build a top ring and drill out for the hinges etc. I'd get a center brace on the top one also, worth the peace of mind.

Sweet it looks like a small salt water store is going to be able to special order replacement trim through their tank supplier and they said it was going to be cheap.

They also said that if I am patient and let them bundle them in with a tank shipment, shipment would be much much cheaper.

They are going to call me back with an exact quote and timeframe of when I can get them.

Hey Tex! Nice pickup Bro. I miss West Texas a bit... Cant leave your doors open around here, no matter how nice the weather is. Always 90% humidity & a ton of mosquitoes. I almost never used the AC in my house in Lubbock.

Thanks man.

Yeah we got pretty decent weather over here. A bit hot but the AC is not on all the time.

We sweat inside. Anyhow, nice pickup. Is that for for your Oscars & Pacu or is their big tank still on the waiting list?
