Are you serious? Aro's cost that much!! Any Aro I see around here is around $100 for a good 6" fish but of course these are Silver Aro's. What is the conversion for AU to US $$.

wow thats a lot of money for the arowana - i just checked to see how much it would cost in canada (where i live) and i found this

After being illegal to import to Canada for many years, Asian arowana, first became legally available in the late 1990's. Initially prices were stratospheric, with Asian Green arowana, the lowest colour grade, selling for over $2,500 US. Gradually retail prices in Canada came down to the level in 2006 where a Green sells for about $250 US, a Red Tail Gold (RTG) for about $750 US, a Super Red for about $1800 US, and Cross Back (Xback) for $3,500 US. The occasional Very Fine Super Red (Chilli, Blood, or Purple Fusion) will sell for as much as $5,000-7,000 US.

Patience is a huge part of fish keeping. If you are in it for the long term, don't rush your decision. With big fish, you are making a LONG TERM decision to own them. Take your time... linger in your local fish store. Check stuff online. Read as many threads as you can to try to get a feel of what you want, what would work together, and what would live comfortably in your tank. Rome wasn't built in a day. Plus, you might get your tank in 10 days, but you still have to set it up, cycle it, decorate it & etc. Remember that your fish selection will dictate what filter(s) you will need, so make your decisions carefully.
