Just bought a 720 gallon. It has two holes in the bottom. One on each side i believe ( i pick it up saturday in ohio). Its 8' x 4' x 3' tall and i was wondering about a sump setup. I have never plumbed a tank before but seen alot here on MFK. I guess im looking for it to be more than needed. It will be housing probably 10 peacock bass and a breeding compound for them very expensive flat looking things call leo's;). Im wondering about what gph i should have, amount of bio i should use etc.... Kinda clueless on the sump detail but i know im in the right place for info. Also i plan on having the sump in the basement and lines ran up to the first floor if its too big
Thanks
Marc

Glad you got a big tank.. a little bigger than you were first looking at though. Cool. I have the same questions about tanks that big... I have ideas but be curious to see what others suggest..

I read somewhere that you needed the sump to be about 1/3 the size of the tank. Not much help but...

Marc, those dimensions come up with it being 600g(599g actually)

Well to get the ball rolling and get people talking.. for my future project a tank (600g'ish) I was thinking 110g sump, a large volume FB filter, and a fx5. Just was my idea to throw it out there..

CSX has a 600g setup in his home and uses two pool filters I believe. Another idea.

Also Marc I would setup a drip system for something of that size, save you alot of effort on waterchanges. And are you putting this thing on the first floor? If so will it support it?

It will be shored up in the basement. I have my 220 shored up with 4x4s. Pool filter might be a good idea. I did the measurements on piranhafury's and MFK's calculator and it came up 720. Maybe ill get 5 or 6 fx5's.

Marc, those dimensions come up with it being 600g(599g actually)quote] no it is 718 if you do lengh x with x hight(in inches) divided by 231 you get gallons. aslo as far as a sump i think you do want 1/3 the tank size( about 240gallon sump); also make sure the pump that it pumping back to the tank is stronger then the one pumping in to the sump. As far as bio media if you want somthing cheap and effecive(sp) i go with nylon pot scubby(sp). If you want somthing that is nicer looking i go with bio balls wich are not cheap. For that kind of setup you want about 3-5 turn over an hour(2,154-3,590). One more thing you will ned mech filtration at the beging of your sump try these http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3579+16746&pcatid=16746. Also heres a link to a sump http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83107. hope this helps:)
