New terrarium, what would work?

my vote is still on a frilled dragon, very simple care and you can take it out and hold them, they are usually as tame as a bearded dragon. I have seen them in a mixed species tank with a few of the draco lizards too. not sure how he took care of them as far as temps and humidity but it was really cool.

Frilled dragons are cool, but not sure if that's what I want. I like the Weberi sailfin dragon more. Although one of those would definitely need to be upgraded to a larger enclosure before too long.

Just so you know, mixing dart frog species is "highly frowned upon" by serious dart frog keepers because of the risk of hybridization.. honestly I don't see a problem mixing them, the aquarium mixes them and culls the hybrids.

It is when they ( not meaning zoo/ aquariums) breed the hybrids and then pass them off as non hybrids that the problems start. Best to avoid the whole situation and not do it.

Mixing also runs the risk of stress, bullying and introducing parasites.

I like pdf's, but they aren't very available around here, and for the cost of them, I'd rather go for something larger, even if I can't keep as many. Unless somebody has some pics of a really nice, large, pdf enclosure to show me...

There are some really cool mid-sized to large treefrogs out there. Leaf frogs, monkey frogs, milky frogs, mossy frogs, barking treefrogs, etc.

what about some tree frogs and anoles? you could get some of the cool ones too like a red eyed tree frog and the turqoise anoles. I am sure they would get a long just fine

I like the tree frogs... maybe the anoles. Could I keep a variety of frogs together (with or without anoles), or is this, again, a "species" only possibility?

I just like being able to mix species, especially some of the smaller ones. Whereas the larger ones I'm more likely to be happy with just one species, or even just one animal.

If you are seriously considering Dart Frogs www.dendroboard.com is the place to start your reseach. Even if you stray into other frog species I highly suggest you visit the sight and review relivent sections. You will find many examples of large amazonian set ups... I've seen a couple of 240+ gal tanks and at least one full room build...


I fully agree with the 'serious Dart Frog keepers' who 'highly frown upon' distributing hybrids... but I also acknowledge that it is very very simply to simply not distribute animals produced in a mixed tank.

It is important to research which species we mix prior to mixin gthem. There are some that will mix very well and some that won't. Us fishheads should understand this principal very well as it is the same way with fish.


Although I am very partial to Dart Frogs... If you keep a slightly larger species such as some of the tree frogs you will be much more likely to cohabitate one or two species of frogs with one or two species of lizards and maybe even a salamander or two if you go with a cooler environment...
