New Texas Cichlids are MEAN BAD *** FISH!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just picked one of these babies up myself. Pretty aggressive fish, but beautiful nonetheless.

Sounds like an awesome fish...

I was at a smaller LFS last weekend where I placed an order for a male and female True Texas.

You are making me verrrrry excited to get the call!

Thats cichlid behavior for ya. Never know what attitude you will get with these guys.

Just wait until they get past 6'', the aggression will be worse....
that's why mine is going back to the fish store. their aggression is very similar to Flowerhorns.

So far, the 2 Texas have lived happily. One is fairly peaceful and doesn't cause problems.

The other is a complete psychopath in need of meds or something.

He has picked out his place and fends off all but the larger fish in the tank.

He hasn't injured anyone yet, so I will keep an eye out for him. But, the little ****&LE is just completely insane. He is significantly smaller than some most of the fish in the tank.

I have a feeling that he is going to pick on the wrong one sometime. My female dovii or my JD will not tolerate it I am sure.

I almost bought a flowerhorn the other day too. It was $75 at 4 inches. Just amazingly beautiful, but I know they can be insane.

Perhaps I will take the mean Texas back.

mine is a badass too but gets kinda bullied by my green terror. My tex likes challenging my blood parrot

Thanks for the update... I'm still waiting for the call on my Texas so I get really excited reading any posts about them.

Any photos?

Great topic!

I recently downsized and took several fish back to my LFS.
But I put my 3" Green Texas in a 150 gal with 4 large Silver Dollars and a 7" Male RD/Midas. The Texas will lunge at the SD's if they get to close and he refuses to run from the RD when he throws his occasional tantrum and chases the SD's around the tank. The RD don't know what to think. Sometimes the RD and Texas just circle each other like dogs sniffing each other. It has been a couple of months now, so I think they will probably make it. I just wish I could get some size on the Texas, he has sure been a slow grower.
