Just got a thai silk flowerhorn from petzone SD I received him yesterday. I believe the owner of the stores name is Roger. He has excellent customer service and helped me to get a future stunner. I am pretty sure what I have is a male as I requested one and he made sure to get him here alive.packaging was great and the fish ate after being in the tank for only 30 minutes! tell me anything you guys can about thai silks because I've kept flowerhorns before but a thai silk is all new to me...don't know anything about genetics, or max size because of limited info online. I can only assume the are something similar to a zz right now so I will assume size and feeding based on what I know about other flowerhorn.any additional info specifically on thai silks would be appreciated. Here he is, sorry for bad pic will try for more another day.

Well as much as I can tell you these guys originated in malaysia from a breeder by the name of mr. Chan and was named the blue diamond flowerhorn and then was sold to a thai breeder hence the name thai silk mr. Chan also made the white tiger which is what I would consider a byproduct of the blue diamond and most likely give you a better clue towards the thaisilks genetics since breeders like mr. Chan keep their secrets under wraps and as far as size ive seen some online around 12 inches and growth rate I've had mine since feb bought him at 2.5 to 3 inches and hes now about 6.5 inches with 5 spawns so far that slowed his growth rate down a little bit

Silks are cool but they are far more sensitive than most other strains. Either heavy linebreeding at the start to get that pearl mutation or careless inbreeding by irresponsible breeders (they breed true, bro X sis =$$$) is to blame who knows. Many show severe inbreeding depression and can be prone to illness.

Nice to know the info...so are they basically pearled out kamfas? Or are they considered their very own strain.

My silk passed earlier this year at 9" and he was the largest I've seen in person. Had a nice water head. The best one out of a great many I bought from multiple sources from usa and thiland. He was always sensitive and his mood would change for no apparent reason. He just started wasting away.

Great...I will keep my eyes peeled for any signs of illness or weakness. If he turns out to seem more delicate because he is a thai silk I will be a little upset. However as of now he is already beginning to claim a 6 foot tank and he is only like 3 inches lol. He seems tough for now
