Got a new fish I'm excited about, tiger shovelnose. I've read up on them but I find the experience I find with people on this site is better than anything else. I've got him with polys, pleco and clown knife, I've seen this combo before, he's a bit smaller lengthwise than the polys, just seeing if anyone had any input as afar as growth rate, aggression or any other FYI's, also I've noticed he "growls" at feeders before he gets them, this isn't just in my head cause his name says "tiger" is it? haha

thanks, he a great fish, gets along with mine well, great eater, they always seem to be able to get a bigger one than you think, they get pretty big though, i think it's almost cliche to say now but "when the time comes a few years down the road I'll get a bigger tank", haha

beautiful fish.....they can do a number a some feeders:)

Very nice fish! I used to have one, but quickly outgrew my tank and had to find him a new home. They can easily reach 36". So I hope you have a tank that is at least 3 ft wide and 8 ft long. They do grow very fast, mine would grow 1" - 1 1/2" a month, but he was very well fed. Being a catfish they tend to be pretty docile and live peacefully with everything as long as they arent small enough for him to eat because HE WILL eat them.

With excellent water conditions and decent food it will probably get to 16" at least in a year. Watch your tankmates as these fish are good at eating them with suprising ease. the mouth can fit a lot in there.
To be honest id plan on a tropical pond when it gets bigger as they will have far more space and you could have a few more monsters in there. and the big plus is ponds are cheaper to build than big tanks.
My tropical pond 12x4x2 cost £500.
my 8x2x3 tank cost £ 1600
these prices include all equipment
if you go the tank route i reccomend acrylic.
