Lots of catfish make barking (growling) noises. If I remember correctly the noise is made from the catfish overextending their pectorial spines past their natural motion rubbing them against their clavicles, which are located under their gills. Many times they will amplify the sound by opening their mouths and controlling the sound waves much as a human yelling loudly. My rtc x tsn hybrid sounds like a grizzly bear sometimes. lol. I have never observed any of my catfish barking or growling before they eat though. When netted out many of them make these noises in distress. They will also show agression twards other catfish when doin this.
