New tigerfish not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think water flow is overrated. I'm only running HOB and no powerheads. Remove the 11" catfish, could be it's not comfortable that it can be a meal itself. Get some tankmates it can school with. i.e. Acestrorhynchus barracudas.

Water flow has nothing to do with ATF eating. Imo its just all in the keepers head to try and mimic the ATF's natural environment. In my experience, eating will depend on the species. Goliath seem to be the slowest and harderst to wing off live. VATF are hungry bold little monsters and will except a wide range of foods. I had my old guy eating zucchini that was meant for the pleco.

Try pieces of Hikari Floating Jumbo Carnisticks. Try them everyday with current on. Also, don't forget 2-3 tinfoil barbs as teacher fish (they will also help with the skittish behavior baby GATF tend to display). Everyone here helped me through my drama with my GATF with excellent advice. It takes a good 3 weeks sometimes for them to finally eat pellets. Good luck with your GATF.

Okay thanks for all the advice guys. I took out my powerheads because the feeders just hid in the dead spot all the time. I'm going to try some feeders again today and see if the tiger will hit them.

I don't mean to be rude or malicious by any means....but....why in the world would you put a 4" fish (long &skinny at that) ,in with an 11" Tigrinus Catfish? I just don't and can't understand the reasoning behind that decision. I honestly can't believe that the ATF made it 10 minutes, much less overnight. I guess you've just been extremely lucky that the ATF is still swimming. I apologize in advance for sounding like such a pessimist. Please help me and everyone else that's reading this thread understand your reason/reasons for adding the Tigerfish and why it would work out? I realize it's your fish and your money, and it's really none of my business...I'm just bewildered friend. Thanks.

I agree. It's not a matter of if. It's a matter of when. Get rid of one or the other before you lose the ATF
