Picked up some new wildcaught tigers from peru and was wondering how many people have had success acclimating there wildcaughts with water that was a ph of 7.5 or greater. My water is 8.5-9.0 out of the tap and then goes through a r.o. unit to make it 7-7.5. I've tried chemically lowering it to 6.5 but it will just bounce back to 7.5 in about 2 days. I've tried some driftwood with no success (must have been preboiled?) and I tried peat but doesn't work well and is very messy. So I gave up on lowering the ph. Just hope other people have had success at high ph.

well, i donno about tigers but rays in general dont have a problem with high ph its more of a ph fluctuation that causes them stress

they will with no problem.... my tank got buffered by mistake and my tiger ray was fine...

hi, have had tigers on import that have gone into bore hole water at 7.9 and been fine the only thing is the colour will not show for a little bit longer than normal. i know of people breeding rays in london tap water and it is very hard!! so as long as they are feeding then one hill over come. should be fine very resiliant fish once the aggression there for feeding

good to hear you guys are doing it. I have put in other motoro wild caught into my tap water with the high ph and a tds reading of 1860 ppm and they have adjusted within a couple days. It's only been 4 days since my tigers have come in and there color has returned but there not eating. Not worried yet. But I remember reading in the aqualog and ross's book about them not aggresively eating in 7+ ph. Have had other experienced ray keepers in the area have problems with newly aquired tigers getting them to feed, I guess time will tell. Oh ya don't have access to blackworms. Just keep trying bloodworms, redworms nightcarawlers and myisis shrimp.
