New Tigrinis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I won't be concerned yet just give it more time mine also just swims at one spot during the day but gets very active after lights off
Try night crawler to entice feeding and after fully acclimated try fish fillet or frozen shrimp, mine was never fed live since 6" but never took pallets tho
Good luck and congrats on the tig

that is the nature of the fish. I think they stay in one place because they are an ambush prater and they come from fast moving streams and rivers. I would start with small minnows for a short time till you get him eating good luck nice fish

The swimming in one spot behavior is normal for these fish. My B. juruense, the sister species to your fish, B. tigrinum, often swims in one spot for extended periods of time even to this day. I think its normal behavior for this type of fish, I'd not be concerned.

I too like the idea of putting it in a smaller tank to get off of live and grow out some.

No doubt about it: Fantastic REAL Tig. They are truly beautiful fish, although one of the more boring until they get a little older. I understand they swim more when they get over a foot long. Mine is about 10" currently.

Brachyplatystoma juruense http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=566 is a beautiful catfish in its own right. I think "false tigrinus catfish" is rather an unfortunate name. It is not meant to be derogatory at all, just distinguishing, but to most it carries a certain negative connotation.

Brachyplatystoma tigrinum http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=354 is your fish. It looks good. You must be taking care of it right. Please, tell us what was happening for the three months since your first posts? What is it eating? What are the tankmates? How did you get it to do well? Etc.
