ok so i decided that discus is not the way to go for my first tank..on to angelfish..how many can i keep in a 40 gal. tank? what other fish can be in tank? and what r the best types of angelfish to have?

I'd say roughly 10gal/Angel. So that would be 4.
If you have good external filtration, I would go with 5.

You could have a few bottom dwellers, some Cory's and a smaller Pleco.
And maybe a shoal of medium tetras. Say Bleeding Hearts.

What types of Angels?
Well that comes down to perosnal preference.
Don't rush out and buy the first ones you see. Take your time. Shop around, and see which ones you like.
I have the Platinums and Smokey Leapards in my tank which are my faves. Koi are also very nice.

I REALLY like the way Pinoys look. In a 40 gallon go with 1 pair or 4 angelfish and wait for them to pair off and remove the out casts.

Pinoys are my favorite but just know that they are not as aggressive as other Angels or at least thats what I've observed from keeping them. I have moved all of my pinoys into a 55 gallon tank because they were being harrased by my other Angels. They rate at the top of my list and are truely stunning.
