Hey, this is my first posting on MFK and just wanted to say to everybody. Recently I purchased a Jardini arow (2/13/2010) and I really love it. It is very healthy. Always swimming around the top of the tank, no drop eye or anything. It is currently 5 1/2 - 6 inch. The only problem I'm having is the feeding habit. My fish only seems to eat crickets and on rare occasions, arow pellets. I have tried feeling it meal worms, brine shrimp cubes, market prawns and today I tried to give it a small feeder just to test if it will eat any other food. I know feeders are bad, this is my first time giving it to my arow. I been watching it for the past hour and all it does it looks at it and swims away. Is that normal? What should I do? Should I just keep feeding it crickets until its bigger? Any help will do. BTW, my tank is full cycled and it is very clean. The arowana is very healthy.

If the arowana is healthy why convert him so early? A lot of arowana keepers usually feed crickets to their arowana at that stage of their life. If he does take them great, if not continue feeding him crickets and on occasions drop in some of the other foods you mentioned and see if he will take it. Otherwise try later when he is around 10"-12" to convert him off crickets as they will be a lot easier/safer to convert at that time.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking too, but I read from other people giving just one type of food isn't good and should be given a variety. I think I'm just going to keep feeding crickets. Any other thoughts? You opinions are deeply appreciated.

903, im having the same issue, i just bought my jar on the 17th of this month and he is about 2.5 to 3 inches long and he also is a picky eater, ive only had luck with him eating blood worms so you may want to try that. im also worried aswell that feeding the same food is bad so ill have to try some crickets for my little guy. ive also read that white clouds are a good food for aros, they are essentially a feeder fish that is packed full of nutrition.

Hmm 2.5-3 inch is really small. You should start off with the really small crickets. My fish LOVES crickets and only crickets... Mine only eat food that floats. Hope it will change when it gets bigger.

You should drop in crickets 1 at a time, and when he gets used to you more drop in a cricket then another then a hikari stick and try to pull a fast one on him, I always feed them to my arowana and they love them and I notice that they really bring out their color. I had a silver but they always ate really good. I switch up their diet too.

Good luck.

i disagree... the smaller the fish the easier it is to train it to eat pellets... i have trained all my fish to eat pellets the second i get them... i trained my silver onto pellets right after it lost its yolk sac... my cuz had a prob with his because he spoiled it too often when it was younger and even to this day it will only eat 3-4 pellets before spitting them out... mine can gobble 40 easy and ask for more..

both arows are about 2 years old...

what pellets would you recommend? im sure there are pellets that tastes cater more to the fish right? and which ones would be the most nutrient to eventually feed to the fish?
