Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum and new to Arowana. I just recently purchased a 5inch Jardini Arowana from a local aquatic store in town. The guy at the store told me that he had been fed only small guppies and advised me that was the only thing he would need for now. I have heard conflicting information on other websites talking about pellets and other things. I was wondering what I should be feeding him while he is still relatively young.

Fed mine frozen blood worms and then jumbo misus shrimp till he jumped
:( I would try to get him off the live foods sooner than later. Lots of risk with feeders, mostly diseases

Really depends on if he will eat other food. Sometimes they will be hooked on live and take a while to get off. I would start working on pellets but you might need to try shrimp or silversides. A variety of food is best.

To get them on other food besides live do I go a few days without feeding to get him to take it or just offer it alongside live?

I would try and get him on pellets or sticks asap. Mine both take pellets just fine and that is their staple diet.

Can be frustrating as you feel you're neglecting him, but your patience will win and eventually he'll take to the new food.

And besides, feeders as others have posted pose the risk of disease.

Good luck and enjoy your new friend:headbang2

I have just brought a silver arowana (about 25cm) about a week ago and so far refuses to eat anything have tried live food and shrimp pellets etc any ideas?

do not listen to the guy at the store 99 percent of the time arowanas that eat live feeders develop drop eye which is a disease that can potentially kill them.
