New To Cichlids! Any Advice?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had great luck in that size tank with some of the more common cichlids. I am not sure if they are all CA, but I would do...

1 Oscar
1 JD
1 GT
1 Freddy or Argentae
1 male con
1 male firemouth
1 raphael cat

Hey I am starting my 180 up with some Central American Cichlids. Any suggestions on different fish to put it? I bought a few tonight and the guy treated me like I was starting up with a 55 gal and new to fish. I am switching from my monsters since I am travelling alot so my wife can feed them easier since we have youngins. Friendly types that eat pellets? Need some ideas here. New Jersey area.
Thanks, Jeff

We need to know what you've already purchased before giving more stocking suggestions.

whatever u do dont ever buy a red devill they truly are devils, go with oscars, jd, gt,
... Are u crazy?:screwy: You have a Red Devil in your avatar. Besides what other fish will attack your hand as your cleaning their tank? I can think of a lot but still.:naughty:

Where did you go to buy fish already? A 180 has a lot of possibility. Maybe some vieja species like regani or argentea, or some parachromis. Freddies or motas would look really good. The rmca auction is at the end of the month so there might be some good fish there.

don't do it!!!!!!! SIKE Just kidding. Try to get the biggest tank possible (180 good starting point). That would be my first advice and second don't go cheap on a filter. Big fish make big poo:)
