Hey all, I'm about to set up my 50 gal. I would like to try out cichlids, but was wondering your opinions on good types of cichlids that can be housed in a 50 for a while and get along. I'm hoping for some good activity and color. Also, I was hoping a couple of my fish from my 75 gal could make it to the 50 so that the new black rhom I get for the 75 will not have to eat them :) Those fish include an African Butterly, senegal bichir and tinfoil barb.

So whaddya think? Thanks in advance

I think an African Butterly, senegal bichir and tinfoil barb are enough for a 50. Just my 2 cents. Cichlids are awesome btw.

awesome, firemouths sound good, if i dont put the bichir or the barb in the 50, how many firemouths could i get if its just them and an african butterfly in there?

I was thinking Convicts until you said color, so I'm going to second the Firemouth idea.

i've seen some con with nice electric blue coloring on their undersides. that plus the orange coloration of a female con wouldn't be too bad :D

Ok, I've changed my mind (shocking I know) I'm going to use the 75 for a cichlid tank, and buy a 150 gal for the black rhom that I want to get. I was looking at my lfs today and they had some peacocks with some nice coloring. Whats your opinions on a 75 for cichlids, good color, good activity? :)

when u say peacocks, do you mean peacock bass or the african cichlids? if its the bass i wouldnt do it in a 75. u could get most cichlids if ur keeping them alone in a 75 though

no they werent the bass type. according to the lfs. They had some blue and pinker ones (Aulonocara nyassae) . Any bottom feeders I could keep with the cichlids? Could I have my common plec 9 in. in there as well?
