Well im new to Cichlids and was wondering what would be a good community tank for cichlids would include im working with a 90 gallon tank so any help and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

If i had a 90 gallon I would personally stock it with any of the following would be good : red devil, green terror, buttikoferi, jaguar cichlid, dovii, blackbelt, flowerhorn, carpintis, any of those would be nice to add. Definitly try to get ur hands on a buttikoferi, those things are beasts!

He said he wanted a community tank of cichlids. All of the cichlids you mentioned would need to be kept as a single specimen tank in a 90 gallon. A Dovii is out of the question. If you are looking for community cichlids, try severums or Geophagus.

yeah but you can keep them together for a while without too much trouble. they can all pretty much fend for themselves and if you see one is in trouble trade him back to your lfs.

Geophagus = Great Idea...

They eat great
They shoal great
they mix your sand(a must) great
They look great when they grow up.
And u could sell your fry to me!

Geophagus

agreed or some Vieja

or maybe Biotodoma cupido

good luck though

:]

my opinion doesn't count for much.. but i'm kinda partial to the severums, i think they are pretty and don't seem as dumb as the bigger meaner cichlids.

Community? For cichlids?! YIKES! GOOD LUCK!!! I usually end up with a bunch of juvies then as they grow they always need their own tank!!!
Realistically though, if you stay away from the true nasties you could keep a community tank... But 90 gallon's would probably be a bit too small! In a 90 gallon, you could probably keep some smaller stuff and some guys with a milder temperment. Maybe a Convict, a Jack Dempsey, Green Terror and an Oscar? Maybe. The Con can be mean, but I've found that with no mate, they are more relaxed. The JD can also be mean, but they usually are big and lazy (from my experience anyway). The GT and Oscar both get fairly big, especially the O, but they are fairly gentle fish. They just have big appetites and will eat anything they can get in their mouth (including other fish). Also, Salvin's aren't too mean. Texans seem to be mild tempered from my experience. Just a warning though, most Central American Cichlids, are N-A-S-T-Y!!! A small or medium sized one could be manageable in a community tank, but definitely not a big one.
