New to co2

1 - Well its good that you removed the sponge filter coz as mentioned, it will gas off any Co2 you are basically putting in...

1a. Also good if you moved the filter outflow below the water line, coz again it will gas off the Co2...

2 - i would probably add more plants into the tank, especially since just looking at the pics on my phone, you dont seem to have plants that are extremely demanding, and many could grow fine without Co2, so maybe up the amount so that it uses up more...

3 - your bulbs are a bit overkill for this current setup other than the HG, but definitely would put you up in the high light category, and i can see how Co2 would be beneficial there...

4 - regarding the fish deaths, how long did you have those fish and what kind of fish were they???

Coz while over-dosing Co2 can kill fish, it seems unlikey it would have happened in this case with such a low BPS count and the sponge filter etc...

So if i were to guess maybe they were already sick???

i had a yellow tip mono die on me and I had him for maybe a month but I know he got beaten up last week. So he may have just been week. I also lost a neon tetra and a paradise gurami. Neon and gurami was maybe like a week old so maybe they just had something wrong with them.

As for more plants, what plants would you think? I feel like it's kinda crowded as is and they haven't fully grown yet. I would love to get a carpet of the dwarf hairgrass going. I really want some red colors in my plants too. I feel like I have a lot of greens

I guess you could wait and see how your HG goes first, coz if it does take off, then yeah you'll have a pretty full on carpet...
